Ars Electronica Futurelab

From 1996 to 2004 i have been core team member of the Ars Electronica Futurelab, one of the biggest transdisciplinary media art and technology labs in europe. Starting with works in 3d animation and virtual environments, I later shifted my focus on exhibition concepts and development. Between 2002 and 2004 i directed the departement for “interactive spaces” as key researcher.

Selected Projects:
Apollo 13, the animated elevator floor in the Ars Electronica Center was my first project for ars electronica (1995-96).

CAVE – For the Media Artist Peter Kogler I developed a virtual environment for the CAVE environment.

Imagining the City ( 2002, with Helmut Höllerl & LanDesign Inc.) an interactive installation presenting a selection of Books, Music and Films dealing with the topic of the “city” – put together by Dan Hill (from city of sound). My part was the design and development of the virtual environment visualizing the interaction history by the users as a three dimensional city scape projected overhead.

We also did a series of large-scale public architectural displays for buildings. I worked on the concept and realization for two of them: Unit-M in Linz and the SAP Building in Berlin.

Archiquarium (2004, concept together with Helmut Höllerl and Gerhard Dirmoser) – An archive exhibition making the ars electronica archive accessible for museum visitors through a physical interface. We based our wall-based interface on a large-scale print of one of Gerhard Dirmosers diagrams showing all projects ever presented at ars. This print was augmented with digital information through RFID tags, which could be “picked” through hand-held devices and further examined on two interactive tables.

A full list of the projects I worked on can be found here.
